FAQs

How can Lumoral become part of the treatment in the clinic?

Lumoral® can be integrated directly into the clinic's workflows at several different points in a treatment course, thereby supporting effective biofilm control before, during, and after treatment:

  • Introduction and patient instruction: To ensure optimal patient compliance and correct use, the process begins with thorough instruction at the clinic. The patient has the opportunity to experience the fit of the tray and the mild thermal effect while you guide them on the correct use of the photosensitizer Lumorinse®. The aim is to create confidence in the treatment and establish a consistent home routine that supports the clinic's treatment goals.
  • Pre-instrumentation: Using Lumoral® immediately before dental cleaning or periodontal treatment destabilizes the biofilm and facilitates the mechanical removal of plaque and calculus. This can help reduce the bacterial load during treatment and support good subsequent tissue healing.
  • Preoperative optimization: By using Lumoral® prior to surgical procedures, including implant placement, the bacterial load in the oral cavity is reduced. This can help reduce bacterial contamination of the surgical field and create good conditions for calm healing and successful osseointegration.
  • Extraction and postoperative care: As part of the postoperative process, Lumoral® can be used to control bacterial levels around the wound site without mechanical disturbance. The treatment can help maintain good bacterial control during the healing phase and support calm tissue healing.
Is there scientific evidence behind Lumoral?

Yes. Lumoral® is based on a well-researched technology, antibacterial photodynamic therapy (aPDT), which is well-documented in dentistry. Lumoral® combines aPDT with antibacterial blue light (aBL) in a home-based treatment developed to support the control of oral biofilm.

  • Developed in Finland: Lumoral® is a Finnish medical technology innovation developed by a multidisciplinary team of medical and biomedical experts focused on controlling the bacterial load in the oral cavity.
  • Clinically proven: Lumoral® has been studied in a number of peer-reviewed studies, including randomized controlled clinical trials (RCTs). The studies have, among other things, investigated the effect on bleeding on probing (BOP), plaque, and periodontal conditions, as well as bacterial load around teeth and implants.
  • No known antibiotic resistance: Lumoral® works through a light-activated photodynamic process and is not based on antibiotics. Therefore, the treatment is not associated with the development of antibiotic resistance in the same way as antibiotic treatment.

Where can the patient purchase Lumorinse tablets?

Patients can purchase Lumorinse® tablets directly at the clinic during their treatment, allowing them to easily continue their at-home routine. The tablets can also be purchased online through the official consumer website lumoral.dk.
