Smartscrews are self-tapping titanium fixation screws from IBI (Industrie Biomediche Insubri SA, Switzerland), developed for fixing titanium mesh and resorbable/non-resorbable membranes in guided bone regeneration (GBR). The screws stabilise the barrier over the bone defect, protecting the regenerating tissue from soft-tissue ingrowth during the healing period.
