Serapid® from Serag-Wiessner is a braided resorbable suture of polyglycolic acid that is resorbed quickly. It has at least 50% residual tensile strength after 5 days and is dissolved after approx. 42 days. It is available in 4/0 to 6/0 with different needles and thread lengths.

01

Material & structure

Polyglycolic acid (PGA), braided and coated multifilament. Undyed only. USP 6/0–2 (EP 0.7–5).

02

Properties

High knot tensile strength, smoothly sliding knot and optimal tissue passage.

03

Use & resorption

50% tensile strength remaining after 5–7 days, full resorption after approx. 42 days. Used in ENT, gynecology, pediatric surgery, oral and maxillofacial surgery, plastic surgery and urology.

The differences between the threads and the needle codes are explained under sutures. See also resorbable sutures.

Resorbable sutures?

A suture's degradation rate is measured as strength versus half-life, so a figure of 5 days means at least 50% of the tensile strength remains after 5 days. The time until the suture has fully dissolved is usually much longer.

The times below are therefore half-lives.
