When to choose a synthetic bone substitute?

Synthetic bone materials are made of calcium phosphates – hydroxyapatite and β-tricalcium phosphate (β-TCP) – with no biological origin. They are an obvious choice when a material without human or animal origin is preferred.

The ratio between the two phases controls resorption: β-TCP remodels over a few months, while hydroxyapatite resorbs slowly and maintains volume. Pure β-TCP such as CERASORB® M is converted into bone within 4–6 months, while biphasic maxresorb® combines remodelling with longer volume stability.

  • No biological origin
  • Controlled, predictable resorption
  • Granules and mouldable foam
