Serasynth® from Serag-Wiessner is a monofilament resorbable suture of polydioxanone (PDO) that is resorbed slowly. It is available in 3/0 to 7/0 with different needles and thread lengths.

01

Material & structure

Polydioxanone (PDO), monofilament, violet. USP 7/0–2 (EP 0.5–5).

02

Properties

Excellent glide, high linear and knot tensile strength as well as very supple handling.

03

Use & resorption

50% tensile strength remaining after 28–42 days, full resorption after 180–210 days. Used for ligatures, dermatology, vascular surgery, orthopaedics, plastic surgery, urology, MIS and gynaecology.

When to choose Serasynth?

Serasynth can be chosen when the tissue needs support for longer than a fast-resorbing thread provides. As a monofilament thread it has a smooth surface that passes easily through the tissue.

Compare with the other resorbable threads under resorbable sutures, or see all sutures.

Resorbable sutures?

A suture's degradation rate is measured as strength versus half-life, so a figure of 5 days means at least 50% of the tensile strength remains after 5 days. The time until the suture has fully dissolved is usually much longer.

The times below are therefore half-lives.
