Half the time with the needle in your hand

If your clinic works with PRF, someone needs to be able to draw the blood. It is a skill best learned by doing it under guidance, which is why half of the course is practical training, where participants practise blood sampling on each other under supervision.

First comes an hour of theory with sandwiches and drinks. This is followed by an hour and a half of practical training, and the evening ends with a summary and the handing out of course certificates.

What you will learn

The theory covers, among other things:

• Vein anatomy, and how to find the right vein
• Equipment: needles, butterfly needles, vacutainers and choice of tubes
• Hygiene and correct aseptic technique
• Blood sampling step by step, from tourniquet to plaster
• Complications and how to avoid them (e.g. haematoma, fainting and needlestick injuries)
• Handling blood for PRF treatment

The course is for anyone who wants to learn blood sampling, with or without experience. Typical participants are dentists and dental assistants who work with PRF, but also nurses, staff in general practice and others who want to refresh their technique.

The course certificate documents that you have received theoretical and practical training in blood sampling. Who is allowed to take blood samples in practice depends on your professional group and on what your workplace has delegated to you.
